7 Tips for a Memorable Spring Break Vacation

Yay! Winter is on it's way out and spring has sprung! Living in Michigan, I'm looking forward to no more cold temps, wind chill factors, snow, and gray skies.

During this time of year, a lot of people are like me and need something to look forward to. I'd say this is especially true if you live in a northern state! After being stuck under dreary weather for the past few months, they want warm, they want an escape, and they are ready for a nice vacation.

For a lot of families, the first opportunity after the new year is in early spring when schools are off for spring break.

But where do you even start? What should you need to keep in mind to ensure that your spring vacation runs smoothly? Keep reading for the answers!

7 Tips for Your Spring Break Vacation

1. Determine your destination.

To begin, have a conversation with me, your friendly travel planner, about the wants and needs of your travel party.

I can tell you that a destination recommendation for a girls or guys getaway is going to be completely different than a recommendation for a family or a couple.

And this applies to your hotel selection too. I'm not going to put you in a hotel overrun with college spring breakers if you’re looking for a more family friendly vibe.

2. Book in advance.

Waiting for a last-minute deal for a spring trip is a terrible idea. Spring break is a very popular time to travel, and availability and pricing will definitely reflect that. To get the best pricing and best availability, book all your travel components as far in advance as possible. I highly recommend at least six to nine months prior to travel.

A lot of travel related pricing is based on supply and demand. So as those in-demand dates draw closer, the prices are going to increase and the availability of tickets and hotel rooms is going to shrink. So save yourself a few bucks, and talk to me sooner rather than later!

3. Be safe.

Remember to follow these recommended travel safety precautions.

  • Leave the valuables at home.

  • If you are bringing electronics or medications, put them in your carry on, not checked luggage.

  • While at your destination, keep your electronics and important documents locked in an in-room safe.

  • Carry a copy of your passport and travel documents and leave a copy with a friend or relative as a backup.

  • Have a general awareness of your surroundings and your travel companions.

4. Pack smart.

I am a classic over-packer. But I'd definitely rather be over-packed that under-packed!

Make sure to pack over-the-counter medications and first aid supplies in your carry-on luggage. Also, think about where you’re traveling to and if there’s anything specific to that destination that is a must-have item. Do you need sunscreen? Bug spray? Rain gear?

Lucky for you, I am here to give you personalized recommendations and help answer any questions on what you might need during your vacation.

Once you have arrived, there will likely be a steep premium on all these common things at popular vacation spots. So my thought process is, "if in doubt, pack it!"

5. Try something new.

A spring vacation is the perfect opportunity for new experiences. Wherever you may be visiting, there are probably a ton of things available to you that you can’t find back home.

So commit to trying something you normally wouldn’t consider or hadn’t thought of before. It could be a new activity, a new restaurant, or a new food. New places mean new adventures! When you step outside of your comfort zone, you'll make exciting memories that will last a lifetime.

6. Drink responsibly.

Yes, you’re on vacation. Have the frosty drinks by the pool or pre-dinner cocktails at a lounge. But be responsible. You don’t want overindulgence to ruin your fabulous trip! Honestly, this applies to tip #3 of being safe too.

On the flip side, remember to be responsible by staying hydrated! Don't wait until you are thirsty to drink water! Nobody wants to spend their time in paradise feeling sick from dehydration. Keeping a reusable water bottle with you will make staying hydrated easy.

7. Use a qualified travel planner.

A travel planner, like Amity Vacations, is one of your best resources to preventing any hiccups during you spring break vacation.

There is so much more to my services than just booking your destination, hotel, and activities. Being immersed in the travel industry means I can inform you if events are running that may affect your vacation or if there are any specific documentation or travel requirements. I also have a wealth of insider tips and ideas that can make your vacation that much more special.
